MASON CITY — The Cerro Gordo County Extension Farmland Leasing Workshop will be 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6, at the NIACC Muse-Norris Center, 500 College Drive, Mason City.
This workshop will guide landowners and renters through the process of finding the right kind of lease for their situation.
The workshop will be led by Kelvin Leibold, Iowa State University Extension farm management specialist.
Topics to be covered for landowners and renters include:
• Current land values and cash rental rate surveys.
• Farm Bill updates.
• Calculating cash and flexible leases.
• Cost of production estimates.
• Grain prices past, present and future.
• Corn suitability update.
Registration is $20 per individual or $30 per couple and includes workbook. Register prior to the workshop is requested.

In Osage, Iowa State University Extension and Outreach in Mitchell County will host a farmland leasing meeting at 9 a.m. Aug. 14 to address questions that landowners, tenants or other interested individuals have about farmland leasing.
The meeting will be held at the VFW located at 3693 Highway 218 North.
Attendees will gain understanding of current cash rental rate surveys and factors driving next year’s rents such as market trends and input costs. They also will learn leasing terminology along with types of leases and how to calculate them. Presenters will discuss how much land values have increased and why. Additionally, ISU Extension and Outreach and Internet-related resources will be presented.
A 100-page workbook will be included with registration that includes land leasing information such as surveys, sample written lease agreement and termination forms, and many other publications.
Kristen Schulte, ISU Extension and Outreach farm and ag business management specialist, will be the presenter.
Registration is $20 per individual. An additional $5 fee will be added if registering less than two calendar days before the workshop.

More than half of Iowa farmland is rented, and the percentage of farmland rented has increased over time due to the changing demographics of farmland owners.
