If President Trump loses the election to Joe Biden as current vote tallies indicate, he could regret warning against mail-in voting, Fox News contributor Byron York argued Friday.

"After all this is over and if the president loses, he and certainly a lot of Republicans, are going to regret their strategy of denigrating mail-in voting so strongly," he told "America's Newsroom."

"The president has made problems for himself throughout the campaign at various times," York, a Washington Examiner columnist, said.

Pro-Trump Republican strategists told York the president's criticism of mail-in voting ended up hurting him in the sense that he had discouraged Republicans all along from voting by mail.

TRUMP 'UNDERMINING' HIS LEGAL TEAM WITH CLAIMS OF STOLEN ELECTION: TURLEY

"States that were going to institute mail-in voting were going to do that, [Trump] could not stop them," York said. "Instead, he fostered distrust in mail-in voting and urged his voters to have a big red wave on Election Day. Meanwhile, Democrats, day after day after day, had bagged hundreds of thousands and then millions of votes already in the bag by the time Election Day came around."

The Democratic nominee steadily gained ground on Trump in both Pennsylvania and Georgia as more mail votes were counted Thursday and overnight into Friday, inching the former vice president closer to the 270 electoral votes needed to win the presidency.

In Georgia and Pennsylvania specifically, Biden now leads. Though with a razor-thin margin there, the Georgia secretary of state Friday said he expects a recount.

Biden sits at 264 electoral votes in states where races have been called while Trump has 214 in called races.

Biden needs just one win in any of the swing states with races that have not yet been called by the Fox News Decision Desk -- Nevada, Pennsylvania, North Carolina and Georgia -- while Trump would need to win all four of those states plus Alaska, which he is expected win, but it is too early to call it because of a lack of votes reported.

Every "valid" vote should absolutely be counted. But remember, votes can be invalidated for many reasons. It is not rocket science, the mail-in ballots are either valid or not. That process should be conducted in plain view for the public to see and witness its impartiality.

Even that does not protect against ballot harvesting, vote selling or fraudulently submitted ballots. That's why voting is supposed to be in person and private, whenever possible.

I'm not sure I understand the premise of the article. Using Pennsylvania for the example here -- If I wanted a mail in-in ballot, I would request one, since I believe that is the only way one would be sent - they are not automatically sent to all voters. I would then mail it in. If I wanted to vote in person, I would do so. I think Trump's complaint was somewhat general, in that some states sent out mail in ballots to all voters whether they were requested or not. If those ballots were not requested, they could be compromised. Florida's mail-in seems to be completed with little to no controversy. Other states, not so much. I would assume a number of these states will be doing either automatic or requested recounts based on the closeness of the tally. In a recount, does a mail-in ballot have to match a corresponding request for one in the states that require it? Also, if a ballot is recounted, are all the votes on it recounted, or just the presidential vote? Thank you.

In Nevada you sign your ballot whether voting in person or by mail. They must match up. If not, they put that to the side for verification.
When you register to vote, you put down the number from your driver's license; you do this to show that you are a citizen since you must show a birth certificate/naturalization papers to get a license. If not a driver, then you get a photo ID card.

Florida is not controversial because Trump likes the outcome. Have you not seen that trend? If any outcome doesn't go his way, it's controversial.

Trump has probably occupied more time on court dockets than any other American. When he doesn't like something, he sues and creates controversy

Trump is a certain type of business man. One who has always used the legal system for whatever he wants to get away with. Used it to avoid, a delay and intimidate. In most cases the other side has fewer resources and less access to legal advice.

This time is different. The other side isn't going to give up.

I usually agree with York, but this time his logic is wrong. Discouraging mail in voting, did not change the number of voters, only the type of ballot they used.
Trump is correct on mail in voting, Other than US citizens abroad, mail in ballots should be requested, not distributed unilaterally. And no ballot received after the polls close should be counted, regardless of postmark. They don't let you in after hours to vote, because you had a flat tire on your way, and they shouldn't let you vote late because the mail was late. You had 4 years notice

It didn't matter, York. Because conservatives won't cheat like democrats do so the hundreds of thousands or millions of democrat votes that were rolled in to the canvasing stations in the dead of night won't happen on the Republican side. The fraud is real and will not stop. It is time for the Red vs Blue conflict to settle this.

To be more precise, Republicans had 4 years notice to work on changing those laws. They didn't change them. Saying it's not fair after the fact isn't how it works.

Maybe Trump hurt his re-election chances...But he is 100% correct that mail-in balloting is an easy target for Fraudsters.

Why do we have election rules that make Fraud easier to commit?

We need serious internal controls built into the process. Starting with strong voter ID.

Agree with Mr. York. There are all kinds of reasons why voters would not go to the polling stations. The pandemic, infirmity, car breakdown, something else big comes up like the kids, you name it.

Democrats did it very well. Saw it here. Literally dozens of unsolicited ballot applications in all kinds of forms to the household, phone calls, some door to door.

Mail in will only increase in popularity, so the GOP should study and emulate Democratic success, this said aside from any fraud.

Trump tells his supporters not to vote by mail. They all vote in person.
Trump is somehow surprised that the mail in votes are all for Biden.

That would be the simplistic viewpoint of a simple-minded partisan who foolishly believes that all of the mail in ballots are legitimate.

York is correct. Republicans are generally more consistent voters, more reliable. Many FL Republicans vote absentee all the time. Absentee voting lets the party figure out who has voted and who needs to be contacted to vote. Absentee voting removes the issue of bad weather, broken down car, etc keeping someone from the polls on the actual election day.

Er, he didn’t denigrate mail in voting just the safeguards. Remember he said vote twice.

Stop twisting words. Trump said cast your vote and then check if it was tabulated. That means vote once and then check it was counted.

Trump has absolutely zero longterm strategy. He's been great for short term power grabs, I'll give him that. The problem is that in the process of making those power grabs he's burned bridges and closed doors for the Republicans who come after him. Which should come as no surprise as he's always only cared about himself first.

I live next to the largest Air Force Base in America that has no planes. Just 6 Huey's. One is over my house right now. If war breaks out I am certainly dead as we are known as the "Nuclear Sponge". I'm honored to die for you, even though I disagree with everything you say. That's America. Sorry you lost sight of that.

Trump knew all along that he wasn't going to win.

So his complaints of the mailed ballots were pure obfuscation for chaos.

Trump wasn't going to get any more votes just because people had the opportunity to vote by mail...

The mail in ballots were rife with fraud, that is why we need to fix that problem. One person one vote, anything else is unacceptable.

It's not mail in voting. It's the process of not confirming one vote for one eligible voter. If you don't check ID, if you don't confirm signatures, then you can mass mail all eligible ballots out (or more) and anyone can collect those (or they can be distributed where you want them) and then they get dumped into the system with no further way to prove who actually did the voting.

Similarly if there is going to be NO quality control, people can get absentee ballots (maybe multiple) and vote in person.

If and when every vote is certified as legal and submitted by a legal citizen of the USA, I might side with you. However, many ballots are being located in post offices, postal delivery vehicles, apartments, with some ballots even be cast by deceased people. There is little doubt many are cast by non-citizens. We need a verifiable system to accurately confirm all ballots. Mail in voting is not one of those systems. That is the quickest way to accept fraud. When are the DOJ and the courts going to step in to protect our Constitution?

Huh? History will show Trump as the most successful president next to Lincoln. And that of all the demented dirty tricks by Dems, only a rigged election could get him out of office. History will expose the traitorous coup attempts of media and swamp. History will also show how sorry America was that they didn't re-elect him, how sorry for electing a lazy, corrupt, mentally deficient puppet and token ho.

Mail in voting should be limited to the military, the elderly. These mail in votes should be sent out a month before and required to arrive by election day. tens of thousands of votes arriving days after the election should not be allowed.
