[브레이크뉴스=배종태 기자] 부산시는 미국 EMP벨스타와 부산진해경제자유구역청이 ‘친환경에너지 초저온 물류센터 건립을 위한 업무협약’을 체결했다.
27일 오후 시청 회의실에서 진행된 협약식에는 박형준 부산시장을 비롯하여 이준호 EMP벨스타㈜ 대표, 차석호 부산진해경제자유구역청 청장 직무대리, 김영선 ㈜한국초저온 부사장, 오원세 부산시의원 등이 참석한 가운데, 한국초저온 부산 물류센터 건립 업무협약(MOU)을 체결했다.
이 사업 투자자인 EMP벨스타는 2,447억 원(외자 697억 원)을 투자하여 국제산업물류도시 9공구 내 LNG(액화천연가스) 냉열을 활용한 첨단물류시설인 ‘(가칭)한국초저온 부산 물류센터’를 건립하게 되며, 향후 이 시설을 통해 300여 명의 고용이 창출될 예정이다.
LNG 냉열이란 LNG 기화 과정에서 발생하는 에너지로, 예전에는 미활용되어 해양으로 방출되었으나 EMP벨스타는 자체 개발기술을 통해 냉열을 물류센터의 냉매로 사용할 수 있게 하였다. LNG 냉열을 이용하여 물류센터를 운영하는 경우 기존 전기식 대비 전력비용 최대 80%까지 절감할 수 있어 차세대 친환경에너지로 주목받고 있다.
EMP벨스타는 미국 뉴욕에 본사를 두고 있는 에너지·인프라 전문 투자사로 한국계 미국인인 다니엘 윤이 설립했으며, 국내 법인인 EMP벨스타㈜를 통해 활발한 투자활동을 벌이고 있다.
EMP벨스타는 골드만삭스 및 SK㈜와 함께 초저온물류센터 투자에 특화한 벨스타 수퍼프리즈를 투자.운영하고 있다. EMP벨스타가 투자한 ㈜한국초저온 평택센터는 LNG냉열, 수소연료전지, 태양광 등을 활용한 국내 최초 에너지자립형 초저온 물류센터로 영하 80도까지 보관이 가능해, 정부백신통합관리시스템 핵심유통기관으로 선정되어 코로나 19 백신 5종을 모두 보관하고 있다.
이번 EMP 벨스타의 투자사업으로 부산 물류센터가 아시아지역 연결 허브로 기능하게 되면 부산항과 향후 신공항의 물동량 확보와 연관산업 발달이 촉진될 것으로 예상된다.

이준호 EMP벨스타㈜ 대표는 “글로벌 투자사인 EMP벨스타는 ESG(환경.사회적 책임.투명경영) 중심의 장기적 시각으로 투자활동을 펼치고 있으며, ㈜한국초저온 부산 물류센터는 앞으로 구축 예정인 중국, 싱가포르, 베트남 등 아시아 물류센터의 연결 허브로 발전시킬 계획"이라며 "또, 향후 각종 연계사업 발굴 등을 통해 신재생에너지 투자영역을 확대하며 부산에 대한 투자사업도 지속해 나가고 싶다“라고 발혔다.
박형준 시장은 “버려지는 에너지를 이용하는 저탄소.고효율의 첨단물류시설을 통해 친환경 물류산업이 지역에 자리 잡게 되길 바라며, 초저온 냉동기술을 활용한 급속동결과 프리미엄 콜드체인시스템으로 지역 물류의 질적 성장을 기대한다”고 말했다.
