New Zealand coconut water company, Coco’s Coconut Company, has launched the nation’s very first coconut water drink, Coaqua.
Founders, Grier Govorko and Steve Gilberd aimed to create a product that stood out from the crowd by only sourcing fresh coconuts from the Mekong Delta region.
According to Govorko, many coconut water brands currently on the market have a tendency to use old coconuts and over pasteurise the product. In contrast, Govorko says that Coaqua retains the coconuts delicate flavour by only using fresh coconuts, resulting in a sweeter and more delicate taste.
“Coaqua use only young coconuts picked from the Mekong Delta region which is very fertile. You can taste the difference as young coconuts have a naturally sweeter taste, the natural sugar content drops considerably after about 6 months of maturation” says Govorko.
According to a recent report from New Nutrition Business, the coconut water market has gone from nearly non-existent, to represent a $1b industry throughout the US and Europe within just seven years.
